Lund University
15, Mar, 2018 14:00-15:00 (1 hour)
I 105, FEUP, Porto, Portugal

ABSTRACT:
In the talk different applications of feedback control to clouds and datacenters will be presented. The overall objective is to make the cloud, its datacenters, and the communication network for autonomous or "self-driving". Applications that will be discussed are admission control, service level control, network function virtualization, and MPC control over the edge cloud. The work has been funded by the VR Cloud Control Program and by WASP (Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program), Sweden's largest engineering research program.

BIO:
Karl-Erik Årzén received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Lund University, Lund, Sweden in 1981 and the Ph.D. degree in automatic control also from Lund Univerisity in 1987. He has been a full Professor with the Department of Automatic Control, Lund University, since 2000. In the beginning of the 1990s he worked for ABB Corporate Research. His current research interests are embedded real-time control systems, and control applied to computing systems, in particular embedded systems and cloud infrastructures. Prof Årzén is a member of IEEE and of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. Since 2018 he is the chair of the executive committee for the WASP Autonomous Systems and Software program.
