Temporal Behaviour

Modelling and analysing the temporal behaviour

Synopsis

Today's platforms and technology requires guarantees in terms of performance, energy, and time. Systems must be as fast as possible, consume as less energy as they can, and deliver their functionality in a predictable way. To cope with these requirements, we address new problems resulting from the integration of distributed and many-core architectures in today’s platforms. We work on scheduling of parallel tasks in distributed, multi- and many-core platforms, sharing of resources (memories, communication networks, among others), use of dedicated computing accelerators such as GPGPUs, and task-to-processor mapping. Our outcomes also include probabilistic approaches, over classical analyses, to provide more efficient results.

Leadership & Achievements

Eduardo Tovar was General Chair of the 20th IEEE Real Time and Embedded Technology and Applications Symposium (RTAS 2014), a top-tier conference in the area.

Eduardo Tovar was the Program Chair of the 19th IEEE Real Time and Embedded Technology and Applications Symposium (RTAS 2013) held during April in Philadelphia, USA, as part of the Cyber-Physical Systems Week.

CISTER researchers Vincent Nélis received the Best Presentation Award at the 21st International Conference on Real-Time Networks and Systems (RTNS'13), for its presentation entitled "Feasibility Intervals for Homogeneous Multicores, Asynchronous Periodic Tasks, and FJP Schedulers".

CISTER researchers José Marinho, Vincent Nélis, and Stefan M. Petters received the Best Paper Award at the 19th IEEE International Conference on Embedded and Real-Time Computing Systems and Applications (RTCSA'13), for their research entitled "Global Fixed Priority Scheduling with Deferred Pre-emption".

Stefan M. Petters served as Program Chair for the 25th Euromicro Conference on Real-Time Systems 2013 (ECRTS 2013), held over July 9-12 in Paris, France. This conference is considered as one of the top three conferences in the area of real-time embedded systems.

CISTER researchers Gurulingesh Raravi, Björn AnderssonKonstantinos Bletsas and Vincent Nélis received the Outstanding Paper Award at the 24th Euromicro Conference on Real-Time Systems (ECRTS12), for their research entitled "Task Assignment Algorithms for Two-type Heterogeneous Multiprocessors".

In 2011, the 23rd Euromicro Conference on Real-Time Systems 2011 (ECRTS 2011) was hosted in Porto, with Eduardo Tovar and Stefan M. Petters as General co-Chairs. This edition of the conference holds the record for highest attendance.

Since 2010, Eduardo Tovar is a member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Real-Time Systems (TCRTS).
