ABSTRACT:
The SmartData API was developed by the Software/Hardware Integration Lab (LISHA) at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) to provide a full-stack framework for Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) connected to the Internet of Things (IoT). It includes communication, synchronization, security, strict timing, georeferencing, and Internet-integration. At the CPS level, it provides a simple and elegant interface to sensors and actuators focused on the data they use and produce. Such data, as well as the associated metadata, follow a precise semantic specification. At the IoT level, such semantic is preserved while the data flows into an IoT platform that features storage, machine learning, analytics, and visualization. This talk covers the main design aspects of the API, as well as case studies of the integration of CPS to the IoT using it.
BIO:
Dr. Antonio Augusto Fröhlich is currently a Full Professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), where leads the Software/Hardware Integration Lab (LISHA) since 2001. With a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering fromthe Technical University of Berlin, he has coordinated several R&D projects on embedded systems, including the ALTATV Open, Free, Scalable Digital TV Platform, the CIA² research network on Smart Cities and the Internet of Things, and the Smart Campus project at UFSC. Significant contributions from these projects materialized within the Brazilian Digital Television System (SBTVD) and IoT technology for Energy Distribution, Smart Cities, and Precision Agriculture. Dr. Fröhlich is a senior member of ACM, IEEE, and SBC.
